Last Days Of February

A late rise from slumber put me on the ice in the mid-morning. I followed the tracks that looked like George's ski runners for his shack and found where he had been set up earlier in the morning. He had already left about the time I was waking up. This left me some nice predrilled 10 inch holes in the ice and I worked them with my standard white marabou jigs for a few hours. A couple nice rainbows took the slowly jigged marabou. Finally some fish landed through the ice in 2010! I also managed my first sunburn of the year. Spring and the open water it brings are not far off now.

Back you go... see you this spring

A Walk With The Fly Rod

The day turned into mostly a walk along the water observing fish and wildlife. I did manage to hook one brown trout but lost him to furious leaping. The bitter cold had me fighting the iced guides so I limited my casting to quality lies. A couple other fish swirled or followed but they just weren't eating much today on the bugger.

I did get to watch a mink come downstream along the undercut bank chasing fish. It was fun to watch him do his hunting and he was trying to pounce on fish as well leaping into the air and coming down on them.
